Bruised or broken tail bone?

About 4 months ago I fell and really hurt what I think is my tail bone. It hurts if I go biking or if I move to quickly from a sitting position. It usually isn't so bad that I can't do anything though. But today for no particular reason it's unbearable. I didn't do anything in the last few days that would cause anything to have happen. I woke up today and it's painful to move around. How long will it take to heal? And is there any real reason to go to a doctor? I'm too afraid to get any x-rays because I've had other medical problems this past year and have received WAY too many x-rays already.
Answer:
If you really want a tailbone x-ray, you really need to take a laxative before the exam so that no stool will be in your lower bowel to obscure the coccyx. BUT! there's no cure for a cracked tail bone, so get a blow-up cushion to sit on and take it easy for awhile. Sacrum/Coccyx xrays irradiate the pelvic area right where the gonads are, and you shouldn't get these done unless you think you have a very very very bad broken tailbone, which would make your rear end look sorta deformed and cause lots of bleeding thru your rectum or urethra. Best advice, if you're not bleeding badly or obviously deformed, just take it easy, eat lots of advil or Alleve, and sit on a little blow up pillow for awhile.
You really do need to see a doctor - it is possible to dislocate your coccyx, and this is very painful. I injured mine when in my teens and now (in my 40s) it's giving me heaps. Don't put up with it without having it checked out!
No real "cure"
Just have to deal with it for about
1 to 4 months.
Dr. %26 x-rays,..
Pay, Pay, Pay!
