Can hydrocodone really effect the way you are?

my mother has been on meds for a while b/c of some medical reasons. now she has been emotionally and verbally abusive to a point where it is noticable and starting to effect the family
Answer:
Yes, pain medications can affect the way you act, think and behave. So can pain that continues for a long time and isn't relieved. She may be in pain even with the hydrocodone and needs to speak to her Dr about changing medications. I have been taking pain meds for years now due to severe chronic pain from failed back surgeries, and it does affect you. Also, if she is running out of medication before time for her next refill, that can really change a person and how they behave. Remember they are addictive and if you are on them for a long time, your body becomes dependent on that medication.
Try talking to her about what she's feeling and going through and try to get her to talk to her Dr about getting more help. Good luck.
any of the narcotic pain medications can affect you that way. it is best to find a way to correct the problem that is causing the pain without those types of drugs. hydro is extremely addictive and it will get outa control. whatever happens, do not get on morphine unless she is teminal.
